How to Take Your CBD

Once you realize that CBD is right for you, the next step is exploring the many ways to take it. Depending on your health and what you want to get out of your CBD, different methods will be better for different people.

But First, What is CBD Oil?

CBD oil is a naturally occurring cannabinoid that is extracted from the mother plant, cannabis, which can be associated with marijuana or hemp. It interacts with the brain’s endocannabinoid system which is responsible for bodily functions like sleep, mood, appetite, digestion and immune responses.

CBD oil is versatile and comes in many different forms. The typical methods for consuming CBD are: ingestion, sublingual, topical and inhalation. We will explore the advantages of these methods so you can decide which consumption method is best for you.

CBD Ingestion Options

The most common method of ingesting CBD is orally. CBD is absorbed in the bloodstream in a similar fashion to the way our body processes vitamins and other supplements. When ingested, CBD is absorbed in the digestive system. The compounds are carried from the stomach into the liver where the CBD molecules are metabolized and passed into the bloodstream where your blood then distributes the processed compounds throughout the body.

The most common ingestible CBD products are capsules, edibles and beverages. CBD infused coffee is starting to become a rather popular way to enjoy your morning brew. Although ingestion may seem like and easy, sometimes fun method, it is not the most effective method for delivering CBD to your body.

CBD Sublingual Options

The sublingual method involves holding CBD oil under the tongue for 60 to 90 seconds. The Mucous membranes under the tongue allow for a large absorption rate due to the vast number of capillaries and blood vessels. This allows for a higher absorption rate than ingesting because it bypasses the digestive process where a percentage of the CBD can be lost.

This method allows for the compounds to absorb faster so they can reach the bloodstream and interact with the endocannabinoid system more rapidly than other methods.

The product that is meant for the sublingual method is pure CBD oil which comes in the form of tinctures. “CBD tinctures are often combined with hemp oil, high-grade alcohol, or glycerin, which helps your bloodstream quickly absorb the CBD as it bypasses regular digestion.” The sublingual method is an easy and fast way to absorb CBD into the bloodstream and it allows for more immediate effects opposed to other methods which take longer to process. The only other method right now that may prove to be more effective is injecting CBD which can be considered unconventional to many.

CBD Topical Options

The topical method involves applying CBD products to the surface of the skin. Although the CBD never reaches the bloodstream, it interacts with other cannabinoid receptors to produce results. Due to the skin’s low permeability (meaning it blocks most substances from passing through) CBD products must be applied heavily to break through said barrier.

Topical CBD products include: balms as well as salves and lotions, all of which are applied directly to the skin. One benefit to applying CBD topically is that CBD is an antioxidant. CBD protects your skin from free radicals like pollution, harmful UV rays and smoke which can allude to premature aging.

Another added benefit is that when the CBD interacts with cannabinoid receptors, it promotes healing and can help treat many skin conditions including eczema, psoriasis and acne.

Overall, the vitamins, minerals, proteins and fatty acids in CBD encourage healthy skin. It supports skin cell growth, protects the skin’s collagen and keeps the skin soft.

CBD Inhalation Options

CBD can be inhaled through vaporizers, which heats the CBD oil just enough to activate its compounds. The CBD is inhaled directly into the lungs where it's diffused into the bloodstream faster than most methods because it does not need to pass through the digestive system or the liver.

CBD vapor products come in a variety of shapes and sizes which can either be disposable or reusable. Make sure to do research on the different CBD vape devices to find which would best suit you. CBD vapes are common among adults and many people find the inhaling and exhaling of the vapor to be therapeutic.

In conclusion, you should expect different results depending on which CBD consumption method you chose, so it's important to know which works best for you personally.
